The Gift of Sight and Sound program continues to help thousands of children in Toronto's highest need communities who have difficulty seeing the blackboard or hearing classroom lessons clearly. In 2009/2010 more than 11,000 children will be screened through the Gift of Sight & Sound Program. This is almost double the percentage found in middle class populations. Many of the children referred for both eyeglasses and hearing devices have never had their vision and hearing tested. In addition, principals in high need schools have reported that children who may be eligible for special education assistance are unable to access this support because parents new to Canada may not know how to respond to the school's request to have their child's vision and hearing tested.

In 2008/2009 more than 6,000 children will benefit from the Gift of Sight and Sound.
Cost: $10.00 per child for vision and hearing.

We registered a four year old Vietnamese boy for JK last year. He spoke very little English and his fine motor skills were well below the norm. A vision and hearing screening revealed that he needed glasses. In fact, his eyesight was so bad, he could not draw straight lines, see colours, do puzzles etc... With corrective lenses, he is now doing very well and has completely caught up with his class.
