DoSomethingSweet.ca is a charitable program that raises funds for Toronto children in need. The concept was brought to life by Joanna Track, founder of the popular online magazine Sweetspot.ca, Kate Driscoll of Lux 9 Inc., a handful of colleagues, and an exceptional group of social workers in the Toronto District School Board.
Like many business entrepreneurs, Joanna and Kate see the potential in all things. When they met a group of TDSB social workers and heard some of the stories of the kids they worked with, they were compelled to take action.
Understanding the ability for the web to bring people together, the team created DoSomethingSweet.ca to help with the time sensitive needs of families in crisis and to bring donors together. TDSB professional staff (social workers, child and youth workers, principals) are the direct link between those in need and the community that is able to give.
“Unlike any other charity of its kind, DoSomethingSweet puts donations right into the hands of the receiver, so that students and families in-need can live a life more sweet.” says Joanna.
What We Do
We help Toronto children and families in times of crisis.
Whether it’s a TTC pass, food for a family, or interview attire, DoSomethingSweet is about giving a ‘hand-up’ as opposed to ‘hand-out’, using the web to make it happen.
To this end:
- We raise money and seek-out donations to support the “crisis management” initiatives as identified by the TDSB
- We generate awareness of the issues that are right here in our city
- We work with the Toronto Foundation for Student Success (TFSS) to support programs for Toronto students
- We provide opportunities for students to give back by volunteering their time to help operate the program
We believe that all children throughout Toronto should have the opportunity to learn, live and grow, so that they may build a sweeter life for themselves and their families.
